The theme of chivalry, the noble style of life, motivates Francesco to a continual search.  The knight’s search for the Holy Grail is an ideal towards which to aim. The ideal of the Samurai of the Japanese culture is like that of Wu Xia – the wandering knight of the Chinese empire.

Francesco believes that from research into ancient values it is possible to find the basis for a spiritual rebirth of a society which has been oppressed by consumerism.

This is the significance of the work: The warrior's rest. A self-portrait in which the artist personifies a knight looking for rest, sat on an imaginary plane of water.  The armour is almost totally removed and the knight is absorbed in his thoughts, symbolized by a flamingo.
